Enhance Your Career Development During The Professional Edge Series

If you’re a professional wondering how to network with other like-minded business people in the KC metro and enhance your professional development, we’ve got a suggestion for you. One option you should definitely have on your radar screen is the Professional Edge series at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park. The free program supports community economic and workforce development needs in the KC metro. It includes KU faculty and staff as presenters on current topics. The team at Burns & McDonnell is a big fan of the series and routinely participates as a corporate sponsor.

What can you expect from attending a KU Professional Edge event? First, you’ll have time before the event to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry while you meet and chat with other professionals from the area. After that you’ll head to Regnier Hall, and take a seat in this acoustically well-designed space among your colleagues in the Kansas City business and professional community. Then you’ll listen to and, in many cases, take part in discussion with a KU lecturer or professor who is a leading subject matter expert. There’s always time for Q&A, and we can pretty much guarantee that you’ll leave feeling that the time invested was worth it. You’ll leave armed with knowledge, actionable tips and suggestions and, quite likely, you’ll even make some new friends.

The next event is on Wednesday, Dec. 7: “Understand and Use Social Media to Communicate Like a Human — not a Robot,” led by Kerry Benson, lecturer, KU School of Journalism. Past topics have included: Sustainable Messaging, Leading in Tough Times, Effective Organizational Change, Mentoring: How to Reach Out for Professional Improvement, Generational Perspectives on Leadership, and Resilience — Hope Within Yourself.

If you can’t make one of the events, KU records the audio as a podcast, and you’ll find the archives on the campus website.

Events are from 8 to 9 a.m., with coffee and pastries at 7:30. The cost is free and these are open to the public.  All sessions are held at Regnier Hall, KU Edwards Campus, 12610 Quivira Road, Overland Park, KS 66213. You can find out more and register for the events here.

Have you ever attended a KU Professional Edge event? If so, we’d love to hear your feedback in the comments section.
